Scrappy Background Postcards

                                      

These are 2 postcards that I did for a swap.  The technique of the month is "scrappy background", at least that's what I think Karen called it.  It is a great way to use up all of your paper scraps.  I tore my scraps into 1.5" - 3" pieces and use a glue stick to adhere theme to heavy cardstock.  I added several layers of distress ink to highlight some of the areas, darken the edges of the pieces, and "meld" it all together.  I had some Lynn Perrella images  from some of the paper scraps and used those as my focal point.  I added some rubber stamping and a few  embellishments to the first card.  The only addition to the Hand card was gold leafing outline around the hand.  Very simple, very quick, and lots of fun.  Oh - I still have these 2....lol  I actually made 2 more and used the 3rd one for the swap.  As I was putting in the mailbox I was having second thoughts.  I guess I just need to make a lot more of these.   Addicting to me for some reason.

Paint Resist Background

Paint Resist Background Technique.

This is soooo easy and you get great results.  Here's the quick and dirty directions.

This technique will work on any color background. I am demonstrating the technique with a page from a book to create a background in an Altered Book project and on a solid dark background which I then used as an ATC.  The image to the right is the result in an Altered Book.  I used the collage sheet Women in Art and Black German Scrap border.

Step1) I used a line type stamp and dark paper,.

Step 2)  I stamped the image with a Versa Mark stamp pad, then sprinkled it with CLEAR embossing powder.

Step 3) Paint over the entire page with a color that contrasts with the paper you are using.

Step 4)  Let the paint dry completely.

Step 5) After the paint has dried wipe off the paint with a damp rag or paper towel.  The paint will not stick to the embossed image.  The example shown to the left was done on a page from an Altered Book.

Goldens Acrylics and Mediums
